Start-up
The equosonic series uses only aquapak® inhalation capsules for nebulization. The following explains step-by-step the device setup and the use of aquapak® inhalation capsules.
Fill about 500 ml of distilled water (not included) up to the red mark in the nebulizer chamber. The water in the nebulizer chamber transmits the mechanical vibration and is not nebulized. It is physically separated from the inhalation solution.
For first use, open the two nozzles of an aquapak® inhalation capsule. To do this, break off the caps on both nozzles and empty the aquapak® (it contains distilled water, which can optionally be used to fill the nebulizer chamber).

For an inhalation treatment, you need about 40 ml of inhalation solution. To draw the NaCl solution, remove the larger of the two plastic caps on the NaCl bottle and insert a withdrawal spike with the pointed end. Then attach a syringe to the withdrawal spike and draw the required amount of NaCl solution. Fill the aquapak® with this (max. 40 ml). |
Insert the aquapak® inhalation capsule filled with the inhalation solution from above into the device's nebulizer chamber until it stops. Make sure the membrane on the underside of the aquapak® is properly shaped. |

Now connect one of the flexible tubes to a nozzle of the aquapak® inhalation capsule. Attach the other end to the device's nozzle.
Cut about 2 m of aerosol tubing from the included tubing roll (2 m = 5 links) and attach one end to the second nozzle of the aquapak® inhalation capsule. Connect the other end to the inhalation mask. |

Now connect the plugged-in power cable to the 220-volt power supply and turn on the device using the rotary control by turning the adjustment knob clockwise to the desired intensity. Both indicator lights will illuminate. |

Also turn the gray control knob for ventilation speed clockwise to the desired power. Perform the inhalation.

Inhalate
For an inhalation treatment, you need about 40 ml of inhalate (10-12 min).
In general, we recommend inhalation with a 3-4% saline solution.
To do this, fill 40 ml (2x20 ml syringe) of 0.9% NaCl solution (included) into the aquapak® and add about 1 g (1 measuring spoon) pharmaceutical salt (included).
Additionally, all lung-penetrating medications can be nebulized in consultation with your veterinarian, in combination with NaCl.
For example, we recommend adding the following substances to 40 ml 0.9% NaCl solution:
- 0.5-1 g crystalline pharmaceutical salt (included)
- ½ ampoule MucoClear 6% inhalation solution
- ½ ampoule FLUIMUCIL 10% solution for inhalation
- 3-4 drops pure eucalyptus oil (caution: allergic reaction), available in the online shop www.medhartwig.de
- 1 ampoule bi-medEctoin® easy breathe, available at www.medhartwig.de
Oily substances should only be used in small amounts as they make the nebulization process more difficult.
When nebulizing medications, the nebulizer output and air supply should not be set to full power but lower, so that the mist flows slowly into the mask and can be exhaled well.
Tips for performing inhalation
In general, inhalation should take place in a calm environment so that the horse breathes deeply and calmly and the inhaled substance can settle well on the mucous membranes. After the treatment, the horse should rest for about 15 minutes. Afterwards, exercise is beneficial for your horse.
After the treatment
After inhalation, we recommend rinsing the aquapak® inhalation capsule with hot tap water and disinfecting hoses, mask, and aquapak® weekly.
Please regularly replace the distilled water in the mist chamber (at least every 4 weeks).
To empty the mist chamber, use the drain nozzle and, if necessary, attach the enclosed drain hose. Open the drain nozzle by turning counterclockwise. To close, turn the nozzle clockwise.

If not used for a long time, drain the water from the mist chamber and dry the mist chamber with a clean household cloth. This protects the oscillating ceramic and extends its lifespan.
Please never touch the oscillating ceramic with hard objects (knives, screwdrivers, scouring powder). Stubborn dirt should only be removed with chemical cleaner.
Disinfection
Clean hoses, aquapak®, and mask regularly with a suitable disinfectant, such as INNOWATECH Anolyte-B or Edisonite®. We recommend weekly disinfection. Alcohol-based cleaning agents must not be used.
Use the disinfectant according to the manufacturer's instructions.
INNOWATECH Anolyte-B can be sprayed directly onto the surface to be disinfected. Alternatively, it can be nebulized pure or mixed with water (1:5).
Other notes
Only "open inhalation masks" without seals may be used with devices from the equosonic series.
The usual precautions when handling electrical devices must be observed.
The operating temperature should be between 5°C and 45°C. Do not store the device filled with distilled water below 5°C. At lower temperatures, the contact water in the nebulizer chamber must be emptied, as otherwise the device's ceramic can be permanently damaged.
Please keep the device box with inserts for possible maintenance or repair shipments.
Warranty
We provide a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase on devices purchased from us.
Except for the oscillating ceramic, which is a wear part and not covered by warranty. Hard impacts, extreme temperatures, and mechanical damage to surfaces lead to rapid aging or sudden failure.
Tipping the device during operation can damage the ceramic or device electronics. Be sure to immediately set the device upright and turn it off. From series 12/20 onwards, the devices are equipped with a tilt sensor.
Causes of faults and remedies
The device cannot be turned on. |
Check that the power cable is properly plugged in and connected to the power supply. |
The device can be turned on but does not nebulize. |
Check that there is enough contact water in the nebulizer chamber (up to the red mark). |
Check that the float in the nebulizer chamber moves freely and floats at the top. |
Check if the aquapak® is clean and free of oily residues. Rinse the aquapak® with hot water or use a new aquapak® if necessary. |
The nebulization amount is insufficient. |
Check that the membrane at the bottom of the aquapak® is shaped correctly and not pressed in. |
There is too much liquid (>40 ml) in the aquapak®. Remove some liquid. |
Check that the silicone ring of the nebulizer chamber is properly inserted. The level must be visible from above. |
