Our approaches

Here we would like to describe our therapeutic approaches to make it clearer. The topic of lung diseases in humans or animals is indeed a complicated subject that not many people are familiar with. Even some veterinarians are not specifically trained in this area. Therefore, we find it important to clarify our experiences and the resulting approaches of our treatment. Please read this section before making a purchase decision. We divide this into two sections to better distinguish between the two different treatment methods. It is important to understand that we are only describing our devices here and sharing our experience from the last 25 years.

Maskeninhalation

The mask inhalation is characterized, as the name suggests, by inhalation using a mask. The setup consists of an ultrasonic nebulizer (model equosonic private or clinic) and a mask. The ultrasonic membrane is stored in distilled water. This water transmits the vibrations of the ultrasonic unit to the inhalation capsule. This contains the preparation to be nebulized. This can be NaCl, saline, or inhalable medications. The mist is then blown through a tube into the mask by a fan. The mask sits on the horse's nose and simulates a space directly in front of the nostrils. Now we come to a significant difference. Our mask is a bucket made of high-quality, food-safe plastic. Our concept is that the horse can breathe freely and relaxed in the mask and does not have to breathe against a resistance. If you have ever had a lung function test, you know how it feels to breathe against something. The success of the inhalation depends on having a calm, deep breath. The particles generated by ultrasound should reach deep into the horse's lungs. Therefore, the horse must stand relaxed and breathe relaxed. Movement during inhalation is not beneficial. This makes the breathing faster and shallower. Do not be afraid of the open mask. Enough reaches the horse, and the device can be adjusted by intensity setting so that one can work very efficiently. The same applies to the administration of medications. Here, it is recommended to set the airflow weaker and the nebulizer performance to about 50%. Additionally, one can seal the top of the mask with a towel to prevent the medication from getting into the eyes.

Rauminhalation

In room inhalation, the name already reveals what it is about. Here we replace the bucket with a room. The large room nebulizer nebulizes brine and blows it into a room using a fan and pipes. This room fills with brine, and the horse can inhale very relaxed. The brine can also work through the skin here and can have a positive effect on the skin or coat. However, it is important to know that ONLY brine and NaCl may be nebulized. Medications should not be nebulized, as you cannot control where they end up and they are distributed throughout the entire room. Now to the difference that also sets us apart here. Our devices nebulize 30-50ml per minute. This is important because you want to quickly get a certain amount of brine into the lungs. After about 15 minutes, a body mechanism kicks in and begins to regulate the salt/water balance. Therefore, we do not recommend using our mask nebulizers equosonic private or clinic or a modified nebulizer from human medicine. These do not have enough power to effectively fill a room.

It is important with both methods that you always keep an eye on your horse and start the treatment slowly. A too strong solution can strongly irritate the lungs and lead to bronchial spasms. Please always consult your veterinarian or an expert in the field first and do not rely on fleeting statements on the internet.
